Courtney Retires from Presidency and Nicole Takes the Helm… PDF Print E-mail

Crew 2085 retired three officers this spring as they will go off to college in the fall—Courtney retired as president, Heather as treasurer and Bryan as quartermaster.

The election was exciting to no end and everyone was clamoring to get an office!   We also have several new Ventures who stepped up to take offices.   Here is a little about our new officers.

Allison-had been acting secretary and officially is the new secretary for the Crew.  Allison started Venturing last spring as soon as she turned 14.  She is a long time Girl Scout working on her Silver Award.  She will attend Olathe East in the fall.  She loves climbing and camping.  Her job will be to take minutes for the Crew and send them out in a timely fashion.  This will help us keep the lines of communication open.

Sarah- Is our new treasurer.   Sarah has been visiting the Crew since last fall and just became an official member on May 22 when she turned 14.  Sarah attends California Trail Junior High.  She has always wanted to be involved in Venturing since she was young.  Sarah is a long time Girl Scout and loves to camp and is willing to try anything!  She went caving with us and had a blast.  Sarah’s job will be to collect money for all events and make sure everyone pays for all the events.

Mitch- is our new Administrative Vice President.  He will be a junior at Olathe Northwest this fall.  Mitch has been involved in Venturing since last summer.  He is a long time Boy Scout with Troop 85 working on his Eagle. Last summer he traveled with his Troop 85 and Crew 2085 to Rocky Mountain High and went bicycling, white water rafting and climbing. Just recently he went to the Tall Ships at Sea Base.  Mitch is the mastermind behind our new Venturing Crew t-shirt and logo and is the keeper of our website!  Notice the new design!

Kevin – is returning as the Vice President of Programming.  He will be a sophomore at Olathe East this fall.  Kevin joined Venturing in the spring of 2008.  He is a Boy Scout and is pursuing his Eagle.  He earned the Venturing Outdoor Bronze this fall. He is the third member of the Crew to earn this award. He is working toward his Gold and Silver currently.  Kevin loves high adventure and hardly ever misses a campout. He is headed to Philmont this summer with his Boy Scout Troop.

Nicole- was elected as our President.  She will be a senior at Olathe North this fall.  Nicole just joined Venturing in the fall of 2008.  She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 254 and is currently working on her Gold Award.  She is involved in her church and school.  Nicole has an outgoing personality and she is very organized and has no problem speaking her mind!  (hmmm wonder where she learned that from!)

Mrs. Weerts AKA Linda and Mr. Wandtke AKA Josh will work with this group of officers to make this a great year!

Parenting Book-Growing Up Right, Growing Up Strong...Parents, Kids, and Scouting PDF Print E-mail

This book was written in dedication to Gerald Lawhorn for his vision to support parents in their efforts to raise their children the best way possible. You will find chapters filled with stories of how families support the efforts in involving their children in the community. It’s for parents, mentors, and families, as well. It’s all about diverse people finding common ground in shared values, interests, and challenges. It’s people coming together to help raise each other’s kids. It’s people united by a vital purpose: to create a caring, nurturing, loving environment where their kids can flourish. And whether those kids are blood relatives or not matters little.
